Jude (pace Bauckham), Jude does represent Jewish Christianity. The normal Christian form of a letter greeting spoke of “grace and peace.” Jude expands the formula to produce the first of the triads that dominate the letter, “mercy, peace, and love.” This combination recurs in the concluding exhortation.
